The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

I found myself superb fast in reading inspirational books compare to the fiction that I hold the reading for almost one and a half year.

Again I was attracted by the cover of the book.
Then I found out Randy Pausch was someone very famous.
I'm not gonna talk much about this person.
If you're interested to know him click here.

There are hundreds of quotes from Randy.
I just feel like sharing some of his thoughts and some of my thoughts.
Writing down so that I won't forget.

1.    Randy's parents were amazing. They allowed the kids paint whatever they want on their rooms' wall.
That's way too cool! One day, I gonna let my children paint their walls, too.

2.    "When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody's bothering to tell you anymore, that's a bad place to be. You may not want to hear it, but your critics are often the one telling you they still love you and care about you and want to make you better."
Yes, sometimes I was thinking that I am so disappointed with my students' attitude toward studying. I would told them if one day I don't bother to scold you, to talk to you anymore, that going to be so bad.
Often I hope someone critics on me, tell me face by face but not behind me, tell me with your sincere heart but not to see me lose.

3.   "Not everything needs to be fixed."
Randy's wife, Jai bang her car. Randy didn't sent the car to any workshop, he said the car still work, let's just drive' em! So, their dented car became a statement in their marriage.
That's why don't judge a book by its cover!
Don't ever over judge someone's car/ place that he lives sometimes it really doesn't identify your social status.

4.    "Time is all you have. And you may find one day that you have less than you think."
Exactly, who don't have time? Time is free afterall! You don't pay to get time.
Just the question is how do you manage your time?
We often complain that I don't have enough time, I need 48 hours for a day.
Sometimes, I am one of them.
I admit that my time management is bad. I should say I like to procrastinate. I drag on the tasks that I should be finish it long time ago. I always do things last minute.
So, what if one day I have less time than I think? like Randy......
Can I fully utilise the remain time I have? Idk......

5.    "I know you're smart. Smart isn't enough. The kind of people I want on my research team are those who will help everyone else feel happy to be here."
I want to meet leader like this! Able to unite all the people under his team.
I believe conducive environment for working is everyone to cooperate and trying to help each other instead of just compete with each other and the worst scenario would be backstabbing each other without your notice.
So that, they can promoted easily.

6.    "I've always believed that if you took one-tenth the energy you put into complaining and applied it to solve the problem, you'd be surprised how well things can work out."
Did you ever meet any non-complainer in your life?
I would like to meet one and I supposed that the person might be someone really optimistic, a terrific man! If he could influence people around him, the world may be a lil more peaceful.

7.    "Halfhearted or insincere apologies are often worse than not apologizing at all"
"A good apology is like antibiotic; a bad apology is like rubbing salt on the wound."
You don't just say sorry but you have to do something to make things better.

8.    Here's a quote for all ladies.
This is not from Randy but his colleague.
"When it comes to men who are romantically interested in you, it's really simple. Just ignore everything they say and only pay attention to what they do."
That's it.
Guys can be really good in sweet talking especially when they need your help/ when they are too lonely. This is just a lil bonus.
But we look at how you act more than how you talk.

9.    "Want to have a short phone call with someone? Call them at 11:55a.m./ right before lunch. They'll talk fast. You may think you are interesting, but you are not more interesting than lunch."
This is interesting and in some way it is right!

10.    "Brick walls are there for a reason. They give us a chance to show how badly we want."
Sometimes we want to challenge ourselves, the higher the brick wall, the more you wanted to get over it. You might fall but remember you can actually climb over it.
Memory brings me to the World War Z that I have watched. Those zekes can actually really climbed over the tall huge wall when they determined to do so.

Here's a video of Randy's last lecture.
You can never feel this is a man going to die in 3-6 months because of tumors and cancer.

IT'S ABOUT HOW YOU LIVED YOUR LIFE.

Nights.

This Is a Love Story

Finally, I completed the last five chapters during another boring course I attended!

Is been a long times that I never touched a novel. I bought this book because I want to spend my RM200 vouchers that I got early of the year. I told myself I must at least get an English novel. I don't want the English words fade from my brain. I felt a little upset every time when I saw some words that I remembered I had learnt but I barely able to speak out the meanings.

I took about half year to complete the reading. Yes, slow like snail...... How could I? I was like read only two chapters for a week. The story is nice but I'm getting lazier and lazier to read ever since I graduated from high school. This is not a good sign! Backed then when I was in high school, I read newspapers everyday! Not that I read every details of the news, at least I wouldn't missed out a day. To finish a novel in just few days is not a big deal. But now?! I think I only flipped the papers maybe twice a week and it took me half year to finish reading my novel. Oh, what the toots!

So, um...... I bought this novel because my eyes caught up by the turquoise white, shiny cover among all the other books with the dull cover on the shelf. The cute love birds that printed on the cover are sweet. It drew me to it!

this is a LOVE Story by Jessica Thompson
…but not every story is the same.

Jessica Thompson, the author.

I started this book not expecting too much as the title already told you. So, I think will be sort of the boy meets girl story. But, there is a small phrase at the bottom of the book cover stated that "...but not every story is the same." When you see this, you probably expect something differences.

The style of writing - swapping from his and her views in every chapters are interesting. Well, it certainly made you more understand the thoughts of both main characters. The start of the story is a little slow and I only found the storyline started to be interesting after chapter nine.

This story isn't about romance so much as it is more to simple connection with human being. Is not a typical cheesy love story, it's frustrating. The way that make me wanna jump inside the story to tie up Nick Redland and Sienna Walker, both the main character together and connect them with some sort of machine to force them tell the true feeling to each other. How could they trying to hide their true feelings for years?! Oh, dumbo Nick you should man up yourself to make the confession to Si.

Anyway, this story is mainly about Nick and Sienna falling apart with each other but their loves for each other are hidden. So, they remain best friends for years. So many things happened in between the years. And in the end, both of them...... You gonna find out yourself the story, if you're interested.

Okay, is 22th of October...... November baby please arrive earlier! ( I'm begging you)

Tuesdays with Morrie_02

What's the fourteen Tuesdays all about?

1st Tues   : The world
2nd Tues  : Feeling sorry for yourself
3rd Tues  : Regrets

Morrie said the culture doesn't encourage us to think about our life until we're about to die. Yes! We are so wrapped up with career, family, having enough money and involved in trillions of little acts that you shouldn't bothered too much. Have you ever standing back, looking at your life and saying:
Is this all you want?
Is something missing?
Do you regret with what you've own now?
Do you happy with your career?
People says Yolo!
I did thought about all these things, but I just don't have the courage to change my regular lifestyle. Ironic, right? Sigh......
Maybe we just need people like Morrie to probe us in that direction.
" Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live."

4th Tues  : Death

Can you ever be as brave as Morrie in facing the death issue? He thought that he's lucky to be alive though he couldn't even wiped his own ass and he was much like a baby. Well, I guess I wouldn't be that brave.

Do you believe in reincarnation? What would you came back as?
I'll choose to come back as human. Human being is the only creature on earth that capable of feeling the noble emotion. Though I might face something rather horrible but I still want to become a human.

5th Tues  : Family

Sometimes people who own a great family don't appreciate much, but people who lost their family envy on others. We often feel regret when your beloved gone. Years back, I participated in a camp and there was a soul talk session. When comes to a soul talk with dim lightning, is much on a touchy-feely session. Most of us cried when the camp mates shared their experiences on running away from home, fighting with the parents or siblings. In the end, what they ended with the stories are the same.
'No matter what you've done with your family, family is always family, they are the only people stand by your side when everyone abandoned you.'

6th Tues  : Emotions
7th Tues  : The fear of aging

People often afraid when someone ask about their ages especially ladies. Idk why  is like a sensitive issue for them and I remembered someone told me that asking people on their age is disrespectful. Is it??
Morrie said people who afraid to grow old reflects that he might have unsatisfied and unfulfilled lives.
I'm 24 and I always looking forward on each year I grow older just I want to know what will I become in the future. Ha ha! I hope I can predict the future......
"Aging isn't decay, but growth."

8th Tues  : Money

Talking about money, tell me who don't lurve it?!
We've got a form of brainwashing that more is good! More is good! What Morrie said is exactly true! We never satisfied with what we already have.
People wanting to gobble up something new, get more properties and latest toys. I wonder why people queueing up at dawn just to get the latest gadgets? Worth it?
When you load the Facebook probably will see a lot of people wanted to show you about their latest buying. ' Guess what I've got, today? ' I did that, too. Sometimes.
Um..... can't deny that money is important but besides earning money please remembered that there are still much more other things that you should care.
You earn in and you give out in a great way.

9th Tues  : How love goes on
10th Tues: Marriage
11th Tues: Our culture

"People are only mean when they're threatened."

12th Tues: Forgiveness

"Forgive yourself before you die, then forgive others."

13th Tues: The perfect day
14th Tues: We say Good Bye

Well, Mr. Morrie you inspired me! Never thought I'll learnt something else during the course. I was jotting down some quotes from Morrie while reading because I afraid that I'll forgot as I can't take the book home. My friends were like feeling curious that what am I doing. Indeed, I should have listened to the talks given by faci. Lastly, I should say thank you for the one who left your book there.

I spent 2 days for this book. This proved that how unconcentrated I am during the course and how bored is it.

I'm actually darn slow in reading during these days. You'll know how slow am I when you see my next post on books I read. Stay tuned.

p/s: This is not a book review. If it is, then is definitely not a good one.

Tuesdays with Morrie_01

October is a long month! There are five Tuesdays indeed!
A hectic week, two courses to be attended start from today until next Monday......FML

Attending courses that you're not interested in are actually torturing. The bored-worms could kill you!

Somehow, I saw there's a book, Tuesdays with Morrie in the drawer, probably left by someone. Coincidentally, the title start with the word "Tuesday" and yet today is Tuesday. I read it.

I don't usually go for books in the non-fiction genres, but the best way to avoid one to fall asleep during some talks is to do something to keep you awake. When you saw this book, probably is the God send you some hints to let you learn some life's lessons. I had just read 1/4 of the book. I bet this is the fastest reading speed for novel of the year for me.

This is what I figured out as far as I had read. Mitch Albom recounts time spent with his 78 years old professor, Morrie Schwartz, who was diagnosed from ALS ( kind of brutal illness of the neurological system ). Morrie a wise, cool man. He kicked out the tradition that funeral can only be held after one's die. He gathered people that he cared and told them he's going to die and asked them to talk about him.

This book is all about Morrie's perspectives on life and death. Based on the fourteen Tuesdays Morrie and Mitch meet, supplemented with Morrie's life experiences.

I will continue my reading tomorrow.  Well, I'll see how do I get inspire by this happy old man.

Wisdom grows with ages!

Night Nights!
